Pick Six, Tizbud Get Attention

Share

For the second day in a row, there is a pick six carry-over of $110,620 at Hollywood Park.

Because a power failure forced the cancellation of the eighth and final race on Monday’s card, the carry-over that had been created Sunday was rolled over to this afternoon.

California Horse Racing Board rules dictate that when all of the pick six races aren’t completed, any carry-over is not paid. Tickets holding the most winners -- five on Monday -- are paid out of the money that was bet on the pick six that particular day. The pool on Monday was $545,814 and tickets that had five winners were worth $20,746.

One horse who will be getting a lot of pick six attention today is Tizbud. A full brother to two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow and multiple-stakes winner Budroyale, the 3-year-old will try for the third time to break his maiden in the fourth race.

Owned by Cee’s Stable and trained by John Sadler, the California-bred was third in his sprint debut at Hollywood Park in July, then finished fifth at 2-1 in his first route on July 31 at Del Mar. He will be ridden again by Victor Espinoza.

Among those Tizbud will be running against are Seeking The Cat, who should improve around two turns for trainer Richard Mandella, Skidoo and the comebacking Musaa Ed.

Race of the day: The fifth, the third leg of the pick six, brings together nine fillies and mares going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. It will be the first turf race in a week at Hollywood Park. There is one other turf race on the card. The eighth brings together eight 2-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles.

Who’s hot: Jim Cassidy and Leonard Duncan. Both trainers won with three of their first five starters at Hollywood Park.

Who’s not: Kent Desormeaux and Jose Valdivia Jr. The two jockeys were a combined two for 37 the first six days of Hollywood Park.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Coconut Girl and Fun House in the fifth, Song Minister, Cynar and Wallstreet Analyst in the sixth, singling Himalayan in the seventh and using Alashir’s World, Miss Flor and Far From Frail in the eighth.
