From Times Staff Reports

A spill of about 420 gallons of raw sewage forced the temporary closure of 600 feet of San Clemente State Beach to swimming and surfing.

City workers were able to recover about 200 gallons after the spill was detected at 8:40 a.m., but the remainder washed down a storm drain.
