Sewage Spill Closes Part of Newport Bay Shore

A sewage spill Tuesday morning near Fashion Island caused about 300 feet of shoreline in Newport Bay to be closed to swimming and diving for the rest of the week.

A buildup of roots and paper towels in a sewage line on San Miguel Drive forced about 300 gallons of untreated sewage into the bay near the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club Marina about 10 a.m., said Monica Mazur of Orange County’s environmental health division.

The shoreline will be closed at least until Saturday, Mazur said.
