Lido Palace Is a Short Price

Those who thought Lido Palace had a chance in what is shaping up as a subpar Breeders’ Cup Classic are out of luck.

The 5-year-old Chilean-bred isn’t Breeders’ Cup eligible and his owner, John Amerman, elected not to put up an $800,000 supplementary fee.

So, in lieu of running for a $4-million purse in Arlington Park in six days, Lido Palace will run in a $58,000 allowance race today at Belmont Park, the final day of the fall meet.

Trained by Bobby Frankel, the son of Rich Man’s Gold will be a short price to topple his seven rivals as he drops out of graded company for the first time in this country.

Since coming to the United States last year, Lido Palace has run in a Grade III, four Grade II’s and six Grade I’s.

Race of the day: Ain’t It Sweep is the 5-2 favorite in today’s $75,000-added Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita, where there is a pick-six carryover of $142,856.41.

The six-furlong race attracted seven other 2-year-old fillies.

Who’s hot: Beau Greely. The trainer had a double on Friday at Santa Anita, winning with two comebackers -- Sligo Bay in the third and Bully’s Del Mar in the seventh.

Who’s not: Ken Tohill. At last glance, the jockey was two for 67 at Bay Meadows.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Snowballs Chance and Club Forty One in the first, Film Critic, Neeshanha, Chapeau and Coconut Girl in the second and singling Window B in the third.
