The latest edition of “Guinness World Records,” with more than 1,000 new entries, is available in stores. Here is a sampling of the baseball records in the full-color, 288-page book:

* The record attendance for a World Series is 420,784 in the six-game Series between the Dodgers and Chicago White Soxin 1959.

* The highest single-game attendance for a World Series was 92,706 for Game 5 at the Coliseum in 1959.

* The oldest player in a World Series was Jack Quinn at 47 years 91 days when he pitched in the Series for the Philadelphia Athletics on Oct. 4, 1929.

* The most valuable glove was used by Lou Gehrig in his final game April 30, 1939. It was sold for $389,000 at Sotheby’s in New York on Sept. 29, 1999.

* The most valuable ball was the one hit by Mark McGwire for his 70th home run in 1998. It was sold at Guernsey’s auction house in New York for $3,054,000.

* The most bats broken over his leg in one minute were 23 by Markus Bock in Munich on March 31, 2001.
