Who Gets School Funds? Inland Empire Districts

Share

Re “Small Districts’ Views on Proposition 47,” October 17:

Larry Stein is misinformed on his facts about who gets the bulk of the state bond money for schools. The truth is that the smaller school districts of the Inland Empire have received hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to build new schools as a result of rapid residential development. San Bernardino and Riverside County school districts have depended heavily on state funds to build and modernize older facilities. San Diego Unified has received relatively little in funding since it only recently became active in the state’s school building program. Many local school bonds depend upon state matching funds to complete their building program. Without a state match available, voters will find their dreams unfulfilled.
