The hit was made more impressive when you consider it came off Giant closer Robb Nen.

Scott Spiezio’s three-run home run at-bat was a clinic in hitting. After falling behind, 1-and-2, and facing the 97-mph fastball of Felix Rodriguez, Spiezio fouled off two pitches and took two close pitches for balls before lofting a full-count pitch into the seats in right field. It might have been one of the toughest three-run homers in some time.

THE BIG LETDOWN

When Kenny Lofton stole second and took third on Bengie Molina’s throwing error, then scored on Jeff Kent’s two-out single in the seventh, it appeared the Angel season was over, especially with Felix Rodriguez, Tim Worrell and Robb Nen in the wings. The Angel crowd was as quiet as it has been all postseason.

The folks at Fox pretty much gave the World Series to the Giants in the seventh inning. They started showing shots of Giant fans in the stands and replayed Barry Bonds’ big home runs from the postseason. They even discussed who would win Series MVP. They didn’t know the Angels had one more comeback left in them.
