KABC’s Rantel takes a day job

Share

The voice was familiar but the time of day wasn’t. Al Rantel, normally heard weeknights from 7 to 10 on talk station KABC-AM (790), turned up Tuesday between 11 and 11:45 a.m.

It wasn’t an accident. He’s the new host at that time slot following the departure of Gloria Allred and Mark Taylor. They’d been on the station together for two years but had their time slot reduced to 45 minutes when KABC brought in the syndicated “Sean Hannity Show” in September 2001.

For the record:

KABC radio -- A Quick Takes item in Wednesday’s Calendar mistakenly said that Gloria Allred and Mark Taylor had been hosting a 45-minute show on KABC-AM (790) since the debut of “The Sean Hannity Show” in September 2001. Actually, it was the arrival of “The Radio Factor With Bill O’Reilly” in May that moved them to that morning time slot.

KABC program director Erik Braverman was unusually candid in describing the value of putting Rantel on during the morning period: “Al Rantel will have an incredible opportunity to recycle his daytime listeners into his evening show as well as cross-promote and tease the topics of the day that listeners can expect to hear more about that night.”
