About 1,500 workers at three San Jose hospitals entered the second day of a two-day strike Tuesday, demanding a say in staffing levels and employer-paid health care for workers’ families, said Dave Bates, spokesman for the Service Employees International Union Local 250.

The workers picketed at Regional Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital and San Jose Medical Center, all owned by Hospital Corp. of America. They said hospital management has stalled in drafting a contract since the workers joined the union almost a year ago.

But Hospital Corp. of America spokeswoman Leslie Kelsay said the company is continuing to negotiate with the union.
