State Program Promotes Sept. 11 License Plates
A statewide “Be a Patriot” billboard campaign was unveiled Wednesday to build awareness of a license plate that memorializes victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Revenue generated by the plates will go toward scholarships for children of about 200 Californians killed in the attacks, as well as anti-terrorism programs. Thousands of license plates have been issued so far, said Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson (D-Culver City), who wrote the legislation.
Registered drivers can fill out application forms for the new plates at DMV offices statewide, online at www.dmv.ca.gov, or by calling (800) 777-0133.
