London Body Exhibit Blends Art and Science

Seeing the Body Worlds exhibit (Sept. 1) was one of the more memorable events of our family trip to London last April. Surely it was no accident that the exhibit was in London’s East End, just a block away from the Jack the Ripper Pub and notorious crime scene walking tour. However shocking the concept is, the people viewing the exhibit were reverent, respectful, awed and amazed. As were we. The bodies, posed in the ways we function and move, made it even more meaningful and relevant.

Jarring and certainly educational, this show deserves the widest possible audience. Our kids (8 and 15) will never smoke after seeing all the blackened lungs. We left wanting to take better care of our marvelous bodies. The power and beauty of Gunther von Hagens’ display are undeniable, and it gave us all a greater appreciation for the creator and our magnificently designed bodies. It is science and art at their best.
