Oxnard Harbor District OKs Union Contract
The Oxnard Harbor District has approved a three-year contract with the 18 unionized employees at the Port of Hueneme.
The agreement with Service Employees International Union’s Local 998 provides pay increases that average 15% through 2005, higher pension payments, an additional paid holiday and more sick leave that can be cashed in when an employee leaves the port.
Port Controller Robert Bravo said the pay and benefit changes will increase employee costs at the harbor district by about $181,000 over three years.
“I think everybody’s real happy now,” Port Commission President Michael Plisky said.
“I know we are. We’re looking forward to working together with everybody for the next three years.”
The Board of Harbor Commissioners unanimously approved the contract Monday night.
Union members voted 13 to 4 in support of the agreement Sept. 4.
