Officials Recommend Anti-Mosquito Measures

Share

The Orange County Vector Control District on Friday urged residents to rid their properties of conditions likely to breed mosquitoes.

The warning came in the wake of confirmations that the West Nile virus, which is borne by mosquitoes, has been found in Los Angeles County. In addition, officials said, cases of St. Louis encephalitis, also spread by mosquitoes, have been detected in wild birds at several Orange County locations.

Residents should rid their properties of standing water in such areas as gutters, buckets, drains and natural rainwater depressions.

As an additional precaution, the district urged people spending time outdoors during evening hours to wear protective clothing and use insect repellent.
