Suits Accuse Councilman of Not Repaying Loans
Creditors have filed two lawsuits against City Councilman Babatunde Folayemi alleging that he owes at least $17,000 in loans that he partly used to buy a BMW. He hasn’t made any payments and has said he forgot to pay his bills.
Folayemi, 62, blames his money troubles on the $9,600-a-year stipend paid council members. By comparison, members of the Los Angeles City Council get $139,476.
Compounding the problem is that he is helping to pay for his wife to attend medical school and divinity school, Folayemi said. He also helps his son, who attends graduate school.
