Woods Takes Five-Stroke Cushion With a 67

From Staff and Wire Reports

Despite no bogeys over 54 holes and his largest lead in two years, Tiger Woods figures he needs one more round of good golf to capture the American Express Championship at Thomastown, Ireland.

Everyone else might need a lot more than that.

Woods didn’t hit the ball as crisply as he did the first two days, but he still produced a nonchalant round of five-under-par 67 for a 19-under 197 and a five-stroke lead over Kelly and several others.

Scott McCarron set a course record with an eight-under 64. He was at 14-under 202.

Woods is 29-4 when he has at least a share of the lead going into the final round.

The round got off to a scary start when a contract worker lost control of his golf cart and plowed into the gallery near the first tee as Woods was about to play. Three spectators were injured, the worst injury being a broken ankle.

On March 21, 1998, Rocchigiani beat Michael Nunn for the light-heavyweight title. But when Jones decided to return to the division in June, he was restored as champion.
