In a season ravaged by injuries, Mattias Norstrom and Jaroslav Modry have been notable exceptions for the Kings.

The veteran defensemen have played in every game.

“They’re our two best-conditioned athletes,” Coach Andy Murray said on the eve of today’s season finale. “I think that explains it right there.”

Said Modry, a 32-year-old Czech who sat out only two games last season: “It’s just determination, a little bit of luck and taking care of yourself in the summer, trying to get into the best shape you can....

“A few years ago, I had a hard time getting into the lineup. I earned my spot and I’m still trying to earn it every night.”

Norstrom, a 31-year-old Swede, has sat out only seven games in five seasons. He has played in 155 consecutive games since sitting out three games early last season because of bruised ribs, an injury that ended a 169-game streak.

“I’ve been fortunate,” he said. “Everybody in this league is playing injured at one time or another, especially if you’re playing in every game.”
