Lisa Guerrero, a Ram cheerleader in the mid-1980s who burst onto the L.A. sports television scene in 1997 and gained quite a following, is leaving sports television for the time being to pursue acting opportunities.

Guerrero’s last day on Fox Sports Net’s “Best Damn Sports Show Period” will be Wednesday, her 39th birthday. Her contract is due to expire April 25.

Guerrero said she would begin filming a movie, “The Play Maker,” starring Boris Kodjoe of Showtime’s “Soul Food” and Alec Baldwin, in New Orleans at the end of the month and was up for another movie role.

Guerrero, who started out at Channel 2 and also had a stint at Channel 11, has been at Fox Sports Net since landing a role on “Sports Geniuses” in 1999.

She ended up doing regional and national sports reporting and has been doing the sports updates on “Best Damn Sports Show Period” since its inception.

The number of updates was cut from four an hour to two an hour late last year, which became a factor in Guerrero’s decision to leave the show.

“I was putting in 11-hour days and doing only two updates an hour,” she said. “The guys got to go home at 5 o’clock, when we finished taping, but I had to stick around until 11:30 or later to do the updates.”

Guerrero said she was leaving on good terms.

“I could have continued appearing on the top of the show and doing the updates, but these other opportunities came up,” she said. “I had a long and wonderful relationship with a lot of people at Fox. I have no problem with Fox nor was I unhappy. I couldn’t have been more blessed.”
