Passenger Dies After Car Hits Barrier on 55
From Staff and Wire Reports
A 43-year-old passenger was killed Tuesday on the Costa Mesa Freeway when he was ejected from a car, police reported.
The victim, whose name was withheld, was riding in a car driven by Yoni Memije-Vinalay, 22, of Santa Ana about 9:30 a.m. when the vehicle was cut off by a sport utility vehicle.
When Memije-Vinalay swerved, officers said, the car flipped and slammed into a concrete barrier near the highway’s junction with the San Diego Freeway. Police said the victim was wearing a shoulder harness, but no lap belt.
