A Calaveras County judge has reduced a sentence to community service for a man ordered to serve nine months in jail for growing marijuana.

Superior Court Judge John Martin said Monday that the “legal landscape” changed after Robert Michael Galambos, 38, was convicted in 1999.

Voters have approved a referendum, Proposition 36, which allows certain drug offenders to receive treatment and community supervision rather than incarceration.
