Three girls, ages 12 and 13, reportedly stole a car Thursday night in Los Angeles, hit the leg of its owner, led police on a chase and caused a six-vehicle crash, police said.

It began at 6:30 p.m. when a man saw the girls drive off in his Honda near West 2nd Street and Bimini Place. He tried to stop them by running in front of the car, but it struck him in the leg, causing minor injuries, said Sgt. John Vach of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart Division.

Police began chasing the girls near Vermont Avenue and Council Street. After several miles, near Melrose and North Hudson avenues, the Honda collided with a Porsche, causing a chain reaction of other crashes, police said.
