Sign Of Lanty Is Retired

Share

Sign Of Lanty, the American Quarter Horse Assn. distance champion the last three years, has been retired.

A persistent problem with the 9-year-old’s left foreleg led to the decision by owners Jackie and Rod MacPherson and trainer John Cooper earlier this week.

Claimed by Cooper for the MacPhersons for $8,000 in 1998, the son of The Signature finished his career with 28 victories in 65 starts and he earned $545,242.

Sixteen of Sign Of Lanty’s victories were in stakes races at Los Alamitos, and had he been able to continue racing, he would have had a shot at breaking the record of 18 shared by Charger Bar and Kaweah Bar.

On tonight’s card, Pebblzz, who has won two of her three starts for owner Tanya Walton and trainer Russ Ragain, will try for her first stakes victory in the $11,000 Helen Logan Handicap.

The picks: 1. Power Trip. 2. Royal Twister. 3. Isolation. 4. Knud Dreams. 5. Endicopolis. 6. No Pet Peeves. 7. Wire Ta Wire. 8. Sherife Usa. 9. Available Credit. 10. Live Withit Willie.

Four! Use Local Call and Power Trip in the first, Royal Twister, Pionera and Seneca Dolly in the second, single Isolation in the third and Okey Dokey Shannon, Time To Come Clean, the Military Miss entry and the How Good entry in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Losttimeinnintynine stretches out in the sixth. A Rare Gem makes his Los Alamitos debut for trainer Vince Smith in the seventh.
