2-Year-Old Dies After Falling Into Family Pool
A 2-year-old boy died Sunday after he fell into a swimming pool while playing alone in the backyard of his family’s home near Orange, authorities said.
The boy was underwater about five minutes before his father noticed him at the bottom of the pool about 6 p.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Dave Wilson said. The father dived into the pool, pulled out his son and performed CPR until paramedics arrived at the home, in the 20000 block of Santiago Canyon Road, Wilson said.
Paramedics took the boy to Chapman Medical Center, where he was treated before being transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County. He was pronounced dead about 10 p.m., Wilson said.
Sheriff’s officials declined to identify the boy. He was playing in the backyard for only a few minutes before he fell into the pool, Wilson said.
