Don’t Fine Millen for Doing His Job
The recent decision by Commissioner Tagliabue to fine the Detroit Lions’ Matt Millen for violations of “the diversity rule” is a blatant case of reverse discrimination under the color of political correctness. The commissioner’s action undermines the ability of management to make decisions that directly affect the quality of the team and also is counterproductive in that it contributes to even more divisiveness.
The Lions complied with this unwise ultimatum from the commissioner when they invited minorities to the interviews and they chose not to attend. If the candidates who did not participate are that unsure of themselves and demonstrate a defeated attitude, is that the kind of character trait that you are looking for to lead your team? I think not.
