Lightning Sparks Fire in Old-Growth Forest

A fire in the mountains of Northern California continued to burn as much as 50 acres of old-growth forest Monday, and the blaze threatened to grow larger if crews were unable to access the remote site.
The Wooley fire, named for a nearby creek, had burned 50 acres to 70 acres in the Marble Mountain Wilderness by Monday morning, said Brian Harris of the Klamath National Forest. Ignited by a lightning strike Friday, it was burning about 22 miles west of this mountain town.
