Andre Agassi was upset by Rainer Schuettler, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, Friday in the Canada Masters at Montreal in a rematch of the Australian Open final.

The top-seeded Agassi made a series of mistakes from the baseline in the quarterfinal at the hard-court tuneup for the U.S. Open.

The eighth-seeded Schuettler -- who lost to Agassi in straight sets at the year’s first Grand Slam tournament -- will play David Nalbandian, who defeated Feliciano Lopez, 6-4, 6-4.

Track and Field

World record-holder Tim Montgomery failed to reach the finals of the 100 meters at the Crystal Palace meet in London.

It was the second consecutive disappointing performance by Montgomery, who was sixth in a race in Stockholm earlier in the week. He was sixth in his heat with a time of 10.13, nowhere near his world record of 9.78.

Dwain Chambers of Britain won the final, a race that saw the start delayed for 15 minutes by technical problems and was eventually switched to manual timing, meaning the first six were all given 10.00 seconds as a finish time.

In other events, American Kelli White matched her personal best in winning the women’s 100 meters in 10.93. White, the U.S champion, beat fellow American Chryste Gaines, who finished second in 10.99.

Rowers in a pre-Olympic test event resumed racing on a shortened course in Schinias, Greece, as winds topping 34 mph caused choppy waters.

The 1.2-mile course was cut in half a day after heats were called off at the World Junior Rowing Championships because of gale-force gusts.

The disruption in the four-day competition intensified criticism about the decision to build the 2004 Olympic rowing center in Schinias, a coastal site about 18 miles from Athens.

Juan Carlos Rubio of Mexico won a unanimous 10-round decision over countryman Jose Luis Cruz in a welterweight bout at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena.
