Regal Cinemas Loses Disability Case Appeal
Moviegoers in wheelchairs are entitled to comparable views to those of able-bodied patrons in theaters with stadium seating, a federal appeals court in California ruled.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals found that Regal Cinemas Inc. failed to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act by forcing patrons in wheelchairs to sit in the front rows of new theaters with “stadium riser” seating.
The plaintiffs’ experts said sight lines for wheelchair seating were more steep than those for most able-bodied patrons.
