The driver fired upon and arrested when he tried to back his car into pursuing officers on a busy Hollywood street was identified Saturday as Edwin Quintanilla, 30, of North Hollywood.
Quintanilla was not injured in the incident, which is under investigation, said Officer Don Cox, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
The chase began Friday afternoon, when police responded to a domestic violence call in a North Hollywood parking lot and ended when officers fired at least two shots into the red Ford Mustang they had been chasing.
Officers said the driver, trapped in traffic on Santa Monica Boulevard near the Hollywood Freeway, tried to back into them, so they opened fire. No one was hurt, but officers said they found a loaded, semiautomatic pistol on the car seat.
