A vote is cast for casting directors

If the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences takes up the challenge issued by David Macaray to have dual-category Oscars for drama and comedy/musicals [“Oscar Needs a Page From NFL’s Playbook,” Dec. 22], I hope someone will also consider adding a category for casting directors.
While overlooked in the constant effort to market acting and directorial stars, this group is responsible for finding the specific talent and unusual traits that give so many movies their memorable texture and most remarkable moments. They certainly contribute as much to a film’s feel as set decoration, costume design and art direction.
