Two people were critically injured and 15 others hurt Tuesday when a car crashed into an MTA bus in the Hancock Park area, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 1:36 p.m. in the 4300 block of Wilshire Boulevard when the driver of the westbound car tried to change lanes and struck the left middle section of the bus, which was also westbound, an MTA spokesperson said.

The vehicles crashed into two trees, and the 20-year-old driver of the car had to be extricated by firefighters. He and a 40-year-old man on the bus were critically injured and taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

“If you looked at the car, you wouldn’t think anyone could survive it, but he did,” said Bob Collis, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.

Ten bus passengers were taken to hospitals with injuries that weren’t serious, the MTA said.
