4-Block Area of Bay Still Closed After Sewage Spill

A four-block stretch of Newport Bay remained closed Friday after about 1,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the water.
Officials said the channel will remain closed to swimmers and divers at least through the weekend. The spill, which occurred Thursday, was caused by a broken sewer line at Newport Boulevard near Via Lido, officials said.
