* A three-wood off the tee heads right into the rough. Woods hits away from the flag, and winds up 50 feet away in the left fringe. His eagle attempt nearly goes in but ends up three feet past. He makes the birdie putt.

* A low, boring three-wood off the tee and a perfect approach leave Woods 11 feet right of the hole. The tricky downhill putt jets three feet past the cup, but Woods makes it for par.

* A two-iron tee shot draws a little too much and lands in the left rough. His approach shot looks short and barely carries the bunker on the right of the green. From 35 feet away, Woods’ putt stops just short and he taps in for par.

* His tee shot flares in the swirling wind but lands on the front right portion of the green, 30 feet from the hole. His birdie attempt comes up two feet short. A routine par.

No. 7, 408 yards, par 4

* A two-iron tee shot lands in shin-deep grass in the ravine that runs along the edge of the course. Woods hacks with a sand wedge but advances the ball less than a foot. A second hack pokes the ball into a bunker on the opposite side of the fairway. Woods hits a remarkable fourth shot that checks up eight feet from the hole, but he knocks the bogey putt past the hole and has to make a three-foot putt to save double bogey.

No. 8, 433 yards, par 4

* A well-struck two-iron draws nicely down the left side of the fairway, leaving Woods 163 yards to the hole. His approach checks up in the fringe around the green, and his 25-foot birdie putt trickles in.

No. 9, 458 yards, par 4

* Woods hits a nice tee shot with his driver, but it draws a little too much and holds up in the left rough, a foot from a large fairway bunker. Standing in the bunker to hit the shot, the ball is at knee level. Woods takes a baseball swing with his six-iron, catches it with the heel and hooks it left near a greenside bunker. He plays a high flop shot over the bunker that stops 10 feet from the hole. His par putt curls left past the hole and Woods makes a three-footer for bogey.
