With the Pac-10 getting its annual bowl season reality check (a stellar 2-5 record), I thought it would be safe to read the L.A. Times sports section without being subjected to the constant mantra, “The Pac-10 is the best conference in the country!” But here comes Bill Plaschke declaring USC No. 1 on the strength of its victories over Iowa and Notre Dame.
Were these nice wins? Sure. Is USC a very good team? Sure. Is this two-loss resume of accomplishment worthy of national champion declarations? I think not. Chill out, Bill.
