The Old Great Game Ain’t What It Used to Be

Share

J.A. Adande says that the Rose Bowl, in order to retain its stature, should support the use of major bowls as playoff game sites. I don’t get it. There is no assurance that a Pac-10-Big Ten match would be part of an annual playoff. If it isn’t and the Rose Bowl is anything less than the championship game every year, the character and stature of the game will be forever changed.

Let’s face it, the Y2K Rose Bowl was the end of an era.

I’m a Sooner fan who enjoyed the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game. My school sold more than its allotment of tickets. My team demonstrated the awesome power of Big 12 football. While here, I dropped my share of cash on Rodeo Drive and in your fine restaurants.

Imagine my feeling in reading J.A. Adande’s column suggesting that the game was “irrelevant,” “now that the Pac-10 and Big Ten champions aren’t locked in.”

Sorry there was “no juice” for traditionalists such as Adande; we “prairie” folk had a good time and would like to come back!
