Bicyclist Hit by Car Is Pronounced Dead

An Oxnard bicyclist who was hit by a car on Rose Avenue last week died from her injuries Sunday, authorities said.
Dawn Read, 18, was crossing Rose just south of Wooley Road about 4:45 p.m. Friday when she was struck by a Nissan Maxima. The driver, Sylvia Gonzalez, 39, of Oxnard told police she slammed on her brakes when she saw Read, but was unable to avoid the crash.
Read, a high school senior, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center with major injuries. She was pronounced dead at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
