A man shot and killed his mother and sister after an argument Tuesday in their upscale Glendale home and then took his own life, police said.

Sources close to the investigation said the killer had some connection to Zankou Chicken, an Armenian restaurant chain in the Los Angeles area.

But authorities said little else about the discovery on the 3000 block of Ayars Canyon Way. The identities of the victims were not disclosed Tuesday night.

Police said the shooter, a man in his 40s who did not live at the house, showed up Tuesday afternoon.

“It appears there was some type of argument, some type of discussion prior to the shooting,” said Glendale Police Sgt. Kirk Palmer.

Neighbors said police got to the house about 2:20 p.m., summoned by a 911 call. A grief-stricken young man and a housekeeper met them on the front lawn. Inside, they found three bodies, described by authorities as the man, a woman in her 40s and a woman in her 60s.

About 6:30 p.m., the younger woman’s husband arrived home and learned what had happened. He began screaming and crying as police tried to calm him. They helped him into a police car and drove him away.

Neighbors described the family as friendly, devoutly religious and the last people they would expect to see visited by violence.

“To live in this type of neighborhood, that’s not what mattered to them,” said Andre Haroutonian, 26, a relative. “It was the humbleness of their hearts. They were true Christians. This is a real tragedy.”
