Carryovers Will Keep Bettors Busy

Share

Pick a carryover, any carryover.

Bettors have three different pick six carryovers to choose from today, beginning with Gulfstream Park, then continuing with Golden Gate Fields and Santa Anita.

The biggest pot of cash is at Santa Anita, where a pool of $156,552 awaits, thanks primarily to a victory by 22-1 longshot General Guidelines on Sunday.

One of the races in the pick six is the $75,000 Paseana Handicap, a 1 1/16-mile main-track affair that attracted seven fillies and mares.

Printemps, who has won seven of 16, will drop out of graded stakes as she seeks her first victory since May 6, 2001 for owner Amerman Racing and trainer Ron McAnally.

Last seen finishing fourth behind Allamerican Bertie, Take Charge Lady and Softly, the 6-year-old Hussonet mare won the Santa Lucia Handicap over this track in her U.S. debut in the spring of 2001. She will be ridden for the first time today by Laffit Pincay.

The Gulfstream carryover, which is $44,241 and commences with the fifth race, offers bigger fields than Santa Anita and, given the slew of longshots that have been winning in Florida, it wouldn’t be a great shock to see it roll over again into Thursday.

Meanwhile, the carryover is $34,253 at Golden Gate Fields and quality is not the name of the game in the sequence there. Five of the final six races on the card are claimers and the claiming prices range between $3,200 and $12,500.

Race of the day: Brightest Ice will try for his fourth win in a row in today’s eighth at Aqueduct for trainer Robert Barbara, who began the week with nine winners from 19 starters since Aqueduct moved to its inner track last month.

Who’s hot: Corey Nakatani. The jockey had four winners over the weekend at Santa Anita, including an easy victory with Pass Rush in the San Fernando Breeders’ Cup Stakes.

Who’s not: The trainers in today’s sixth at Santa Anita. The seven are a combined three for 38 at the meet.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Miss Freedom, Force The Way and Runbeforethewind in the fifth, singling Dancing Banner in the sixth and using Printemps and Angel Gift in the seventh.
