Anaheim Man Held in Knifing Rampage

Times Staff Writer

An Anaheim man terrorized his family Sunday night, cutting the throats of two children and stabbing his wife and cutting her throat before he was arrested, police said.

Geno Alexander Ramirez, 29, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

Ramirez’s wife and two 8-year-old children were reported in stable condition Monday at area hospitals. Martinez said investigators did not know the reason for the attack.

“We don’t know what set him off because we haven’t been able to talk to the victims,” he said.

Police said the rampage began at 11 p.m. When officers arrived at Ramirez’s apartment in the 100 block of North Magnolia Avenue, they found his 28-year-old wife outside bleeding. Despite her injuries, the unidentified woman had fled the home carrying her year-old twins and a 2-year-old -- who were uninjured -- to safety.

Ramirez’s 8-year-old stepson and daughter also ran to safety after they were attacked, Martinez said.

Ramirez suffered what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds, Martinez said.

“He asked the officers to shoot him, but he was taken into custody without incident,” he said.

Ramirez’s wounds were not life-threatening, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into jail.
