Police were searching Wednesday for a woman and her young boy, identified as the former girlfriend and son of boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya, who were last seen Saturday at a Riverside shopping mall, authorities said.

De La Hoya is not a suspect in the disappearance of Angelique McQueen, 32, of Anaheim and 6-year-old Devon De La Hoya, Anaheim police said. McQueen’s car was found at the Galleria at Tyler.

There was no immediate indication that foul play is involved, police said. Spokespeople at De La Hoya’s downtown Los Angeles office and his promoter’s company in Las Vegas said the boxer has been on vacation in Puerto Rico for about a week with his wife, singer Millie Corretjer.

A male friend of McQueen -- who also goes by Angelique Desbrow -- filed a missing-persons report with Anaheim police about 11 p.m. Saturday after she and the child did not return home as expected, said Sgt. Rick Martinez, spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department.

Riverside Police Lt. Jay Theuer said Anaheim police asked his department Monday to check the mall parking lot. Theuer said officers found McQueen’s car and left a note on it urging her to contact her male friend. Theuer said the case is considered a missing-persons case and is being handled by Anaheim police.

When police found the car, “there was nothing to indicate foul play,” Martinez said. “But nonetheless, she and her son are gone. We’ve had detectives working on this full time. They have not been able to locate anything. It’s strange.”

De La Hoya’s attorney, Jeffrey Spitz, said he was aware of the investigation but declined to comment.

De La Hoya has been married to Corretjer since October 2001. News reports in recent years have mentioned only two of his children, Jacob and Atiana, De La Hoya’s daughter with actress Shanna Moakler.
