Events Planned to Celebrate 4th

The following is a listing of scheduled Fourth of July festivities throughout Ventura County, including parades, concerts, special events and fireworks displays.

Camarillo

* The Pleasant Valley/Somis Lions Club will host its annual Fireworks Spectacular at Freedom Park. Gates open at 3 p.m. for continuous live entertainment, food, raffles, jolly jumpers and children’s activities. Fireworks show at 9:10 p.m. The park is at Camarillo Airport, off Pleasant Valley Road between Eubanks Street and Freedom Park Drive. Free. 484-8388, Ext. 395.

* The Commemorative Air Force Aviation Museum will host an open house with aircraft displays, tours and flights, weather permitting. Displays include a restored Japanese Mitsubishi Zero A6M3 fighter, Supermarine Spitfire fighter and British Hawker Hurricane fighter. The museum is at Camarillo Airport, Eubanks Street entrance to Aviation Drive. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. 482-0064.

Fillmore

* The annual Star-Spangled Car Show & Festival will highlight more than 300 street cars, classic models, hot rods and trucks at Central Park and along Central Avenue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also on tap: arts and crafts vendors, food, live entertainment, horseshoe tournament, vintage train rides, water play area, military displays and children’s activities. A fireworks display will start at 9 p.m. at the Fillmore High School football field, 555 Central Ave. Gates open at 6 p.m., with entertainment beginning at 6:45 p.m. Free. 492-2114 or 524-3701.

Ojai

* Ojai Music Festival’s annual “American Salute” concert will feature the 20-piece Nordhoff High School Jazz Band performing from 5 to 7 p.m. at Libbey Bowl. The band, led by music director Bill Wagner, will perform jazz standards, Broadway favorites and patriotic music. Gates will open at 4 p.m. for picnicking. Free. 646-2094.

* The Ojai Independence Day Committee will present its annual holiday activities at several venues. A Youth Freedom Run starts at Libbey Park at 9 a.m. A downtown parade starts at 10 a.m. from Country Club Drive to Park Road, and a Picnic in the Park with food, contests, games and entertainment begins at 11:30 a.m. at Sarzotti Park, 510 Park Road. Gates open at 5 p.m. at the Nordhoff High School stadium, 1401 Maricopa Highway, for the Fourth of July Concert & Fireworks Show. The concert, featuring Soul City Survivors, starts at 6 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. $8 general, $3 children. Oxnard

* Channel Islands Harbor will host its Fireworks by the Sea festivities, beginning at 11 a.m. with a parade. Other activities include live entertainment at three venues, arts and crafts, kayak lessons, skateboard exhibition, children’s activities and food. The “Centennial Fireworks by the Sea” display, marking 100 years of cityhood, will begin at 9 p.m. Free. 985-4852.

Santa Paula

* The city’s first pyrotechnics show in two years will take place at 9 p.m. at Harding Park, East Harvard Boulevard and South 13th Street. Free. 525-4478.

Simi Valley

* The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library’s annual holiday affair offers family entertainment, games, presidential look-alikes, Civil War encampment, face painting, storytelling, food and a patriotic concert by the Los Angeles Police Department Concert Band. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. The museum is at 40 Presidential Drive. Museum admission is separate: $5 general, $3 for senior citizens 62 and older, free for children 15 and younger. * Gates will open at 1 p.m. at Simi Valley High School, 5400 Cochran St., for “The American Journey.” There will be food and craft booths, plus live entertainment beginning at 3 p.m. The Blurred Vision skydiving team will jump from 12,000 feet and join hands in a free-fall to about 4,500 feet. Presented by Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, Simi Valley Rotary and the city of Simi Valley. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. $8 general, $5 children. 584-4400.

Thousand Oaks

* The Conejo Recreation and Park District and the city of Thousand Oaks will offer several free and low-cost activities. All-ages nature walk, 7 a.m., west terminus of Avenida de Los Arboles in Wildwood Park, Thousand Oaks (free). Pancake breakfast, 8 to 11 a.m., Borchard Community Center, 190 Reino Road, Newbury Park ($2-$3). Home Run Derby for seniors (50 and older), 9 a.m., Borchard Park, Field No. 1, 190 Reino Road, Newbury Park ($2, registration 8:30 a.m.). Home Run Derby for ages 16 and older, 9 a.m., Borchard Park, Field No. 2 ($5, registration 8:30 a.m.). Family open swim, noon to 4 p.m., Thousand Oaks High School and Newbury Park High School pools (free). Fireworks, 9 p.m., free: best viewing at The Oaks shopping center, north parking lot, Ventura Freeway at Lynn Road, Thousand Oaks, and Janss Marketplace, 255 N. * Maestro Elmer Ramsey will return to lead the annual Conejo Pops Orchestra holiday concert at 5 p.m. at Conejo Community Park, Dover and Hendrix avenues, Thousand Oaks. Also performing, the Sherwood Singers and vocalists Jim and Susan Wilber. Free. 495-2163.

Ventura

* The city’s 28th annual street fair will be preceded by the Pushem-Pullem Parade at 10:30 a.m., held along downtown’s Main Street. Kids and their parents are encouraged to dress up emphasizing the event’s theme, “America ... Mom, Baseball and Apple Pie.” Registration, 9:30 a.m.: Cemetery Park, Crimea and Main streets.

Street fair activities are held along Main Street, from Fir Street to Ventura Avenue, and include entertainment on six stages, food, classic cars, kids’ activities and about 300 artisan booths. Ventura County Museum of History & Art and San Buenaventura Mission will also host activities. Hours: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. 654-7830.

* Ventura College and Rotary Club of Ventura will host the 10th annual Family Festival & Fireworks Celebration at the college’s athletic field, 4667 Telegraph Road. Festival-goers can picnic during a four-hour variety show titled “The Music of America.” Featured will be Rubicon Theatre Company staging “Broadway Magic,” plus Western band Riders of the Purple Sage, zydeco band Flambeau and others. Also, youth games, strolling entertainers and food. Hours: 5 to 9:30 p.m. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. $8 general, $5 children. 641-5585.

* The historic Dudley House, the city’s last pioneer farmhouse, built in 1892, will present its annual holiday open house with a crafts and collectibles show, docent tours and a large display of flags. Also, a historic recording series will continue with the playing of Fats Waller music from 1922-1929 and Olivas Adobe interpreters will display Victorian board games. Hours: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The house is at Ashwood Avenue and Loma Vista Road. Free. 644-3286.

Westlake Village

* Westlake Yacht Club will hold its 34th annual boat races and parade at Westlake Lake, themed “Liberty for All.” An electric-boat relay race will begin the event at 10:15 a.m., followed by a “round the island” small sailboat race at noon. The Decorated Boat Parade will begin at 3 p.m. with awards for “best theme,” “most humorous” and “originality.” Viewing is free.
