In response to a growing demand for such services, free weekly clinics for domestic violence victims seeking restraining orders and other legal information will be offered at two locations in Ventura County, officials announced Monday.

Beginning today, victims can attend a class at 8:30 a.m. each Tuesday in room 301 of the Hall of Justice building in Ventura. By the end of summer, the same clinic will be held weekly at the Simi Valley Police Station. The time and day of the Simi Valley class have not been determined.

During these classes, victims will learn about domestic violence, their legal rights, available services and how to obtain a restraining order.

“The need for these services continues to grow,” said Catherine Duggan, a spokeswoman for the Crime Victims Assistance Program, a division of the Ventura County district attorney’s office.

In 2001, more than 7,000 domestic violence calls were made to police in Ventura County.
