High School’s List of Cheaters Stirs Concerns

Granite Bay High School has a unique way to prevent cheating, but critics said it could stigmatize students who find themselves on “the cheaters list.”

Throughout last year, the names of students caught cheating were added to the list and e-mails were sent to teachers informing them that the list was updated. By the end of the school year 68 names were listed.

“This all began with the concern that if a kid was shortcutting in the English class, why shouldn’t we be concerned that he’s also doing it in the social studies and math classes?” Assistant Principal Mike McGuire said.
