Once Again, Dallas Defeats Memphis

Dirk Nowitzki scored 10 points during a decisive 13-0 third-quarter run to help the Dallas Mavericks complete a four-game season sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies with a 114-87 victory Saturday night at Dallas.

In all, Nowitzki scored 13 of his 28 points during the third quarter when the Mavericks outscored the Grizzlies, 28-17.

The Grizzlies were without starting center Lorenzen Wright, who returned to Memphis to be with his family following the death of his 11-month-old daughter, Sierra, on Saturday morning.

Pau Gasol’s 25 points and eight rebounds led the Grizzlies, who have lost four of their last six and 11 straight to the Mavericks.

Washington 101, Chicago 93 -- In a game marred by seven technical fouls, Juan Dixon made his first NBA start and led the Washington with 27 points and six rebounds at Washington.

Dixon -- a rookie from Maryland -- also drew a shove from Donyell Marshall that got Marshall ejected. Marshall had two of three Chicago technicals during a game-deciding 19-2 run late in the third quarter.

Michael Jordan, in his lowest-scoring performance since turning 40 six games ago, had 17 points.

New Orleans 97, Phoenix 92 -- The Hornets extended their winning streak to six games with the win at Phoenix.

The Suns got within 93-92 on two foul shots by Shawn Marion with 29 seconds left, but Courtney Alexander made an 18-foot jumper that bounced high off the front rim and dropped through with 9.8 seconds left.

On the Suns’ last chance to tie, Joe Johnson missed a jumper and Alexander got the rebound, was fouled and made two free throws with 2.2 seconds left.

Golden State 92, Detroit 90 -- Gilbert Arenas scored 26 points at Oakland to help the Warriors extend their winning streak to five games. They hadn’t won five straight since the first five games of the 1994-95 season.
