It’s never too late to take potshots at bad movies, and the Razzie Awards put the current season of self-congratulation in Hollywood into perspective by recalling some of the movies that represent the worst of the year. “Swept Away” topped the tongue-in-cheek list.

Madonna and Britney Spears tied for worst actress for their roles in “Swept Away” and “Crossroads,” respectively. Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie’s movie also was singled out as worst picture and worst remake.

Roberto Benigni was chosen worst actor for his turn as “Pinocchio,” which was a success only in Italy, where the comedian is phenomenally popular.

The Razzies weren’t reserved for flops. George Lucas’ “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones” took dishonors for worst screenplay (Lucas and Jonathan Hales) and supporting actor (Hayden Christensen).

Madonna snared another Razzie for supporting actress in “Die Another Day,” in which she also sang, but the Razzie for worst song went to “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” sung by Spears in “Crossroads.”

All told, “Swept Away” aroused the most scorn, adding worst director for Ritchie and worst screen couple for Madonna and Adriano Giannini, giving the movie a total of five Razzies.

The awards were announced Saturday in Santa Monica by John Wilson, originator of the Razzies.
