Five months after they completed an improbable postseason run by defeating the San Francisco Giants in Game 7 of the World Series, the Angels open the Major League Baseball season tonight against the Texas Rangers at Edison Field.

John Lackey, the rookie who started and won Game 7 of the World Series, will pitch tonight against Texas. Ismael Valdes will start for the Rangers.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers, who won 92 games last season but came up short in a bid for a wild-card berth, open the season Monday at Arizona, the defending National League West champion.
