FIRST QUARTER

LAKERS 18 SAN ANTONIO 29

Highlight reel: After two dismal efforts in Los Angeles, David Robinson gave San Antonio fans something to cheer about early with the Spurs’ opening two baskets. Robinson’s first score came on a rebound tip over Shaquille O’Neal and his second came on a monster left-hand dunk off an alley-oop pass from Stephen Jackson.

Not in the box score: How lethargic the Lakers looked as they struggled to get back on defense against the Spurs’ transition offense, especially forwards Robert Horry and Devean George. San Antonio’s Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and even Tim Duncan scored easy baskets without much resistance.

Winning number: 10, the total amount of points scored in the quarter by Parker, who made four of six attempts and was more aggressive offensively than he was in Games 3 and 4.

Wrong number: Zero, total points scored in the quarter by the Lakers’ bench players, who were outscored by their counterparts, 6-0.

Leading scorers: Lakers -- Kobe Bryant 8; Spurs -- Parker 10.

Leading rebounders: Lakers -- Horry 4; Spurs -- Duncan 7.

SECOND QUARTER

LAKERS 38 SAN ANTONIO 56

Highlight reel: Ginobili showed off his ballhandling skills and, in the process, made a couple of Lakers look silly in setting up an easy basket for the Spurs. From the left wing, Ginobili drove around George, and when Mark Madsen stepped out to help, he passed to Duncan for a power right-hand dunk.

Not in the box score: The energy level the Spurs played with as they completely dominated the Lakers on both ends of the floor and controlled the tempo behind guards Parker, Ginobili and Speedy Claxton. The Lakers, for the second consecutive game in San Antonio, were playing like a team that didn’t want to be here.

Winning number: 52.2, the shooting percentage in the first half by the Spurs, who made 24 of 46 attempts.

Wrong number: 7, the total amount of turnovers committed by the Lakers in the first half, with O’Neal and Bryant combining for four of them.

Leading scorers: Lakers -- Derek Fisher 6; Spurs -- Duncan and Claxton, 6 each.

Leading rebounders: Lakers -- O’Neal, Fisher 2 each; Spurs -- Claxton, Duncan and Malik Rose 3 each.

THIRD QUARTER

Highlight reel: Parker continued to have his best game of the series and showed up the Lakers with a fancy Pete Maravich-type move. After taking in an outlet pass, Parker led a San Antonio fastbreak and fooled a leaping Bryant with a behind-the-back pass to Bruce Bowen, who finished the play with a two-hand dunk.

Not in the box score: How the Spurs’ Robinson and Jackson basically tried to tackle O’Neal underneath the basket, which upset the Laker big man so much, he picked up a technical for yelling at the officials. Duncan also yelled at the officials a few minutes later. No technical.

Winning number: 20, the total amount of fastbreak points scored by the Spurs over the first three quarters with most of them coming off Laker turnovers.

Wrong number: Zero, the total amount of baskets made over the first three quarters by George, who missed seven attempts, including a weak dunk that was blocked by Duncan.

FOURTH QUARTER

LAKERS 94 SAN ANTONIO 96

Highlight reel: Watching Bryant’s play in the fourth quarter would give anyone heart problems. If he wasn’t making clutch three-pointers, he was forcing up bad shots hoping for fouls to be called. But his willingness to carry a team led the Lakers’ dramatic comeback from a 25-point deficit to the final seconds.

Not in the box score: How Laker Coach Phil Jackson, who had been relatively quiet for the first three quarters, stood up to complain to officials about a foul called on Slava Medvedenko, who helped spark the Lakers’ comeback along with Brian Shaw and Jannero Pargo.

Winning number: 13, the amount of points scored in the game by Medvedenko, who gave the Lakers a lift in the second half with his shooting.

Wrong numbers: Zero and 15, the total amount of three-point shots that have been made and missed by Horry in the series, including a potential game-winning attempt in the final seconds of Game 5.
