Nurse Hit by Metrolink Train Dies From Injuries

From Times Staff Reports

A 46-year-old Oxnard woman died at a local hospital Saturday morning, two days after her car was struck by a Metrolink train.

Dana Santos, a nurse at Camarillo's Pleasant Valley Hospital, was driving to work about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when she waited on the tracks at a stop sign at Wood Road and 5th Street, between Camarillo and Oxnard, authorities said.

The crossing arms suddenly came down, indicating a train was coming, officials said.

She was unable to get her car off the tracks and did not flee the vehicle.

Santos was ejected from the car on impact. She went into a coma from which she never awoke.
