Ventura County prosecutors Monday charged a 19-year-old motorist involved in an accident that killed two people last week with gross vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving and drunk driving resulting in injury.

George Henderson of Moorpark was arrested Thursday after his vehicle rear-ended a Buick Skylark stalled in the center divider of the southbound Ventura Freeway in Thousand Oaks. Shantile Stanton of Reseda and German Bonilla of Mission Hills, both 19, died in the crash.

Authorities said the pair were returning home after shopping in Camarillo when their vehicle developed mechanical problems in heavy traffic.

According to witnesses, Henderson drove onto the center divider to pass traffic and slammed into the Skylark at 70 to 80 mph.

Court records show Henderson had previously been cited for speeding and driving under the influence. He did not enter a plea to the new charges Monday.

An arraignment was set for Friday.
