Red Sox May Get Schilling
The Arizona Diamondbacks traded Curt Schilling to the Boston Red Sox on Monday for four players, pending Boston’s willingness to give the right-hander a three-year contract extension in return for waiving his no-trade clause.
Red Sox owner John Henry and General Manager Theo Epstein are scheduled to meet with Schilling in Arizona today and have been given until 2 p.m. on Friday to complete the transaction by the commissioner’s office.
Schilling, 37, will be in the final year of his contract next season, earning $12 million. In an impromptu news conference with reporters on the front lawn of his suburban Phoenix home he said that “money won’t be a factor” in his discussions with the Red Sox, but he has said he would require a three-year extension to give up his no-trade clause.
Boston reportedly will send outfielder Michael Goss and pitchers Casey Fossum, Jorge De La Rosa and Brandon Lyon to Arizona to complete the deal.
