Gillick Resigns as Mariners’ GM
Seattle Mariner General Manager Pat Gillick is leaving the job after four seasons.
Gillick, 66, will remain in his position until a successor is found, then become a consultant for the team. Seattle had a 93-69 record this year but finished three games behind first-place Oakland in the American League West and did not qualify for the playoffs.
“I’ve had four chances at the brass ring here and think maybe it’s time for someone else to take a shot at taking this team to a higher level,” Gillick said Tuesday in a statement.
