Frerotte Will Start Again for Vikings

Gus Frerotte will make his second straight start at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, replacing the injured Daunte Culpepper, Coach Mike Tice announced Friday.

The Vikings have a bye next week, which will give Culpepper more time to heal after breaking three small bones -- another was partially broken -- in his lower back during a Sept. 21 game against the Detroit Lions.

Frerotte threw four touchdown passes in a victory last week over San Francisco that resulted in a near-perfect 157.2 quarterback rating.

Frerotte (128.2) and Culpepper (108.0) are the top two rated passers in the NFC.

Tight end Frank Wycheck of the Tennessee Titans will not play in Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, but he can expect to play again this season, according to an independent examination.

Wycheck, who has been sidelined the last three games because of continuing problems with a concussion sustained in the preseason, rejoined the team after spending Thursday in Pittsburgh to undergo tests.

“We got some mixed results, some good and some that would suggest there’s a concern,” Coach Jeff Fisher said.

The Jacksonville Jaguars activated wide receiver Jimmy Smith and said he will start Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers.

Smith received a seven-day roster exemption Monday when his four-game suspension for substance abuse was lifted by the NFL.

The Jaguars also added running back LaBrandon Toefield to their injury report, listing him as questionable after he injured a shoulder in practice.

Rush Limbaugh told his radio audience that he is amazed at the controversy over his comments about Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Donovan McNabb.

The commentator gave up his job as an ESPN sports analyst after saying that McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed.

“It’s amazing to me that this is a controversy at all. Had what I said been said by anybody else ... it wouldn’t have even gotten noticed,” he said.
